Biography
Jean Pierre Bers Mbalaka (aka Bers Grandsinge) lives and works in Belgium. He was born in 1955 in Ipamu (Congo Rep.) and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa from 1976 to 1980. During a trip to the United States in 1985, Bers got acquainted with various artists from New York, among them Jean Michel Basquiat and Franco the Great. Bers got his nickname "Grandsinge" from Basquiat, who called him like this during a meeting in New York. On recommandation of Basquiat and Franco Bers moved to Belgium and created his own technique called "polyurethane". As a result of his main interest, the human brain, he developed his theory of the "Invisible Man".
